When are check-ins?

Check-ins are scheduled by the University. Check-ins begin on the start date of your contract. During check-ins, each student receives his apartment and mail keys, vehicle and bicycle permits (as necessary), and information regarding his contract and Bunkhouse policies.

We understand our hours don’t work with everyone’s schedule. If you arrive after our office hours, you’ll contact a Managers’ Assistant (whose phone number and apartment number will be posted on our office) who will unlock your apartment for you. You will then be required to meet with Management the next business day during office hours to take care of rent, receive your keys, and finalize any paperwork, as necessary.

No early move-ins are allowed. Exceptions to this are limited to only I-Team Volunteers. You must be listed on the University’s volunteer list, notify Management at least one week prior, and will be required to pay $15/night upon arrival.

When will I know my apartment assignment?

TENTATIVE apartment assignments are e-mailed out two weeks prior to the semester start date. However, your FINAL apartment assignment will be given to you when you move in. Last minute changes do happen, so please do not mail items to yourself or move into your apartment before checking in.

What should I bring?

Bunkhouse Apartments provides all of the furniture for your apartment including 6 single beds and dressers, a desk in each bedroom, couch and loveseat, TV, DVD player, major appliances (fridge, oven, dishwasher, and microwave), and seating in the kitchen. Here are some things that you may want to bring:

  • Bedding and a protective mattress cover (required by the University)
  • Dishes, pots, pans, and utensils
  • Laundry supplies (including a laundry hamper/basket)
  • Shower curtain
  • Towels and personal items
  • Iron
  • School supplies
  • Cleaning supplies (Click here to see what the Cleaning Manager recommends.)

Please do not bring any additional furniture (not permitted per your contract), weapons (See: BYU-I Apartment Living Standards), or anything that may harm the property and/or roommates.

When is my rent due?

Rent is due in full when you check in. Cash, check, and money order are accepted in our office. Or, you can pay on our website with a card, but understand it’s subject to an additional 4% handling charge.

If you need to pay with financial aid, you will fill out a form of agreement to pay rent once you’ve received this aid. In order to do so, we will need proof of anticipated aid. You can do so by printing off a copy of your Financial Aid Awards under the “Finances” tab on your my.byui.edu page. Upon receiving the aid, you must come to the office to pay or pay online. We cannot access this money for you. For questions regarding your Financial Aid, please contact the BYU-I Financial Aid Office.

If you need to set up a payment plan, the first of three payments is due at check-ins. We’ll set-up the plan at this time as your plan is dependent on your contract. The first payment varies for all of our tenants, but the last two payments are always $365 each.

What ward will I attend?

When are clean checks?

We conduct weekly clean checks. The dates and times are announced at the beginning of each semester. Click here for more information on clean checks.

What is my address?

Mailboxes are located in our Lounge and Theater & Game Room. USPS delivers to these mailboxes. FedEx and UPS deliver to your doorstop. If you have issues with your mail, contact the appropriate mail service. If Management receives any of your mail, they will contact you immediately (please understand this is rare and in most cases the issues lie with the mail carrier).

If you live in a 3 digit apartment (101, 204, 410, etc.), your mailbox is located in the Lounge. Your mailing address is as follows:

What if I get locked out of my apartment?

If you get locked out of your apartment, please do not remove the screen! Contact one of the MAs (info is on the office door) to unlock your apartment for you.

When are checkouts?

Checkouts are scheduled when you sign your contract. Your contract will always end at 6:00 p.m. on the contract end date. This means you must be out by this time or will face charges of a minimum of $30. You are not required to stay until the end, but can leave according to your school and travel plans.

For students who have a future contract with us, we offer storage options. We do not allow storage for students who do not have future contracts with us.

Students not returning to Bunkhouse during a future semester will receive their security deposits back via mail. In order to receive this, tenants need to leave a self-addressed, stamped envelope. After full evaluation and completion of checkouts, Management mails the deposits to the addresses provided. Deposits are mailed within 30 days of the contract end date.

What is the White Glove process?

White Glove is conducted at the end of the semester in connection with checkouts. All students are required to participate in White Glove or will face charges of $30/hour. These charges will be added to the next semester’s rent, if the student is returning, or will be deducted from his security deposit, if the student is not returning.

White Glove assignments are according to apartment sign-ups. A sign-up form will be issued to each apartment near the end of the semester. Whatever job each tenant signs up for is the job he will be held responsible for during White Glove evaluation.

Each apartment will receive a White Glove packet with details on how to clean each item for his job specifically. Each tenant is only responsible for the apartment job he signed up for as well as his bedroom job (dependent on which bed was his).

When will I receive my deposit return?

Your deposit will be sent to you 30 days after the end of the contract. They will be sent in the self-addressed, stamped envelope you provided during checkouts, so make sure you provide the correct address on your envelope.

Is there visitor parking?

We have four visitor parking spots amongst our parking lots. Visitor parking is limited to the BYU-I regulations for visitor’s hours, which are between noon and curfew. Occasionally we will have extra parking passes which allows us to offer visitor passes. Please check with the Managers or a Managers’ Assistant to see if and when they are available.

What can I use to hang decorations in my apartment?

We do allow you to use pins, tacks, or small nails to hang decorations in your apartment. We encourage you to decorate your apartment with uplifting decorations that allow the Spirit to reside in your apartment. We do not allow any double-sided tape (3M or Command tape, etc) in the apartments. It damages the walls and is very hard and time-consuming to fix.

How do I reserve one of the Common Areas?

To reserve a Common Area, complete the Common Area Reservations form under “Current Residents.” Submit your request and the manager will approve/post your reservation to the calendar during office hours. You will receive a confirmation via your BYU-I e-mail.
